10 Sep 20: Erichsen Racing stole the show with an excellent treble on this year's Norwegian St. Leger day. Hampus G, a tremendously solid homebred who ran second last year's Derby, landed the Leger, while Purple Ace took Norsk Mesterskap for 2-åringer and Two Times completed the treble by capturing the Unbreakable Handicap.
Hampus G has probably never been better than right now, and this late developing homebred could well improve again - perhaps we are dealing with a high profile stayer here? He raced with great zest throughout in the St. Leger, staged over a testing 2830 metres. Never far off the pace, he had a shrewd partner in Sandro De Paiva, who reserved his energy for a strong finish. Hampus G led passing the 200 metres mark and, although the favourite Wishformore launched an attack, he was never in any danger in the closing stages. The son of Mutajally won the classic quite snugly by 1 1/4 lengths and he was pricking his ears as soon as he was being eased after the winning post. This is how a classic should be won!
