Homebred juvenile clocks good time

Purple Ace just keeps on winning

04 Oct 20: Another race - another win. That seems to be how Purple Ace sees life these days. He turned up as the odds-on favourite once more as he met four rivals in Dinnergruppen På Øvrevoll Løp over 1370 metres - and did not disappoint. Partnered by Elione Chaves, who also rode Buckyboy to a fine handicap win and Shantou to finish second in Norsk Jockeyklubs Sprintløp, Purple Ace beat Silvana readily by 1 1/4 lengths, while Leave No Trace was a close third. This win was worth 71.400 kroner - pushing Purple Ace's earnings up to 274.775 kroner from four straight wins.

How good is Bjørn Syversen's unbeaten gelding? That's hard to say - and a question well worth pondering on. Bred in Norway by Knut O. Arnesen and www.blackmoonbreeding.com, Purple Ace has yet to meet imports but perhaps he would be up to matching strides with the very best around? His winning time, 1.24.3, was just 1/10 sec. (about half a length) slower than the time recorded by Kingof Pharoahs in Tattersalls Norsk Kriterium 25 minutes earlier on this action packed Sunday. The clock indicates that Purple Ace is rather special for a thoroughbred carrying the "NOR" suffix. Well, we already knew that of course.

Norsk Mesterskap for 2-åringer

Purple Ace remains unbeaten

10 Sep 20: He only had two to beat and he was long odds-on, but Purple Ace was visually impressive as he retained his unbeaten record by taking Norsk Mesterskap for 2-åringer in an absolute stroll. This was his third win in as many starts and he is still learning. This time, the practice session was all about sitting off the pace - which was not easy, given how moderate the pace was. He pulled early on and raced unsettled but did the job well when the chips were down, Taking over with out 300 metres to go, Purple Ace left his rivals for dead in a matter of strides, to win the race by 6 1/2 lengths from Caiado. Purple Ace was strong passing the judge and the margin could have been bigger. This son of Born To Sea from a distinguished Aga Khan family is beginning to look rather an exciting prospect. How highly can he fly? A test against imports would be most interesting, but for now, let's just savour the moment,

Purple Ace, sharp, fast and strong

23 Aug 20: Cathrine was called into the winners' circle again just over two hours after Duca di Como's demolition job, as she sent out Purple Ace to victory in Skandinavisk Mesterskap for 2-åringer. This incredibly talented son of Born To Sea, was coming off a fast win when tackling 900 metres on his debut last month, and the question posed was how he would cope with stepping up to 1370 metres, while at the same time taking a step up in class. The answer came in the form of a game win over Leave No Trace and Silvana. Purple Ace, partnered by Manuel Martinez, joined stable companion Sir Vincit and Rocketman in a real speed duel from the start – and he was the only one capable of keeping up the good work in the home straight. He fended off all challenges to retain his unbeaten record. This gelding looks the best of the homebred juveniles, and he is probably up to winning better races. He did this the hard way and stretching out further in distance may not be a disadvantage. Purple Ace is owned by Bjørn Syversen. Impressive debut by homebred

Purple Ace off to a perfect start

16 Jul 20: Purple Ace, a Norwegian bred son of Born to Sea, made an impressive debut as he outclassed his rivals over 900 metres on the turf course. Sent away at 4-1 by the betting public, the talented gelding joined The Notorious in a battle that took the pair well clear of the chasing pack, and he quickened away from his rival inside the final furlong to win with ease. The margin was 2 1/4 lengths, he was full of energy after pulling up, and there should be more to come from this young runner, who is bred to stay much further than this sprint distance. Bred by Knut O. Arnesen and Black Moon Breeding, Purple Ace is out of Dabiyla, a daughter of Azamour, one of The Aga Khan's best performers and stallions in recent years. GS
